Mercouri Estate is located in Korakochori in Ilia, western Peloponnese. It has a long history going back to 1864, when Theodoros Mecouris, a cosmopolitan businessman, bought the land. This was the beginning of what would become one of the most well-known and respected wineries in Greece. The estate a begun with the plantation of Refosco vines from Friuli in northern Italy, a variety which is the cornerstone of the vineyard to this day. The Mercouri family has been producing wines and exporting them to Europe since the 19th century, making it one of the oldest winemaking families in Greece.
